Review of The Immigrant (2013) by Robert V — 08 Dec 2014
It was beautifully sad to see how in the early 1900's Immigrants came to Ellis Island and tried to settle there and build a life for themselves. This is a story of one particular immigrant and that of her sister and the struggles she went through, from selling her body to being manipulated and almost ruined.
Marion Cotillard is once again brilliant in this movie and is so far removed from that of La Vie en Rose. Her subtleties are so delicate and yet her intelligence and strength is portrayed so vividly. A character driven movie at its best for the leading actress.
Joaquin Phoenix final scene makes up for the somewhat clumsiness during the first half of the movie. Jeremy Renner is delightful as a magician and steals Ewa's heart and mine.
