Review of The Immigrant (2013) by Anthony D — 30 Apr 2015
Beautifully sad, and not for everyone, however, tension builds, and the film's success relies upon the questionable intentions of the two male leads, played by Phoenix and Renner.
Like Titanic where the ship is the star, in The Immigrant, NYC circa 1921 is the star and all its desperation fueling most everyones behavior and mostly her behavior Joaquin 's character has the only real arc (of exemption,no less) however Cotillard brings a plethora of feelings into everyone of the plethora of close ups definitely necessary to land all the conflict drama nd uncertainty the audience feels through her eyes. its her movie and decerves an oscar nod.
