Review of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) by Erika V — 11 Sep 2011
Heath Ledger. Say the name, and you picture the latest portrayal of the villainous Joker from Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise. However, you would be incorrect in believing that that was the late actor's last film role.
It was, in fact, the role of Tony the Liar in Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". It is not a great movie. It is not even a decent movie. But it is an interesting movie.
For having lost its star early in production, the movie makes an unusual use of body doubles out of Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell who all gave their earnings from the film to Heath Ledger's 4 year-old daughter.
Another interesting aspect of the film is that not only is "The Social Network" star Andrew Garfield slated to play Peter Parker in "The Amazing Spider-Man" next year, but he also stars in this movie as a side-show clown, woman, and an 8-year-old boy.
Like I said, interesting.
