Review of The Ides of March (2011) by Max S — 11 Apr 2012
This movie really makes me hate politics. A campaign manager (Gosling) runs into blackmail, backstabbing, and lies during the process of a Ohio democratic vote. The first time I saw the trailer to this film, I was pumped up and excited.
However, I walked out of the theatre a bit dissatisfied. Donâ(TM)t get me wrong the movie has an excellent cast. You cannot find one person who isnâ(TM)t a famous actor. The script is unbelievable and the acting is Oscar worthy, but The Ides Of March still does not impress me.
There were a lot of twists and turns which kept you engaged. However it was predictable at times which took away from the plot twists. George Clooney did not play a big role in this movie, he mainly focused on directing.
Ryan Gosling really shines in this movie. The Ides Of March is certainly not a perfect movie and is not a 5 star movie. I recommend seeing it in theaters or renting it. One way or another I would see it.
Overall, I felt The Ides Of March was a good political thriller worth seeing and I give it four out of five stars.
