Review of The Ides of March (2011) by Ryan V — 02 May 2012
Ryan Gosling plays an idealistic press secretary who throws his support behind a charismatic presidental candidate (George Clooney). His naive optimism, however, is shattered by a grim sex scandal that results in an unstable intern's death.
The Ides of March plays up the backroom intrigue that most people assume is an aspect of politics, but its main appeal lies in its well chosen cast. Gosling and Clooney are well supported by a talented team that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti, and Evan Rachel Wood.
