Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Matthew B — 06 Apr 2008
A marvelously sculpted film. The genius here is in the minute details, whisperings, and nudges. Ang Lee, daring to venture where most filmmakers never tread, is content to let the narrative unravel itself, and he bathes the viewer in the atmosphere of a suburbia rotting at its superficial core.
Kevin Kline (surprisingly compelling), Joan Allen (unsurprisingly perfect), Jamey Sheridan, Sigourney Weaver, and Henry Czerny form a strong cast, and the young stars - Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, and Adam Hann-Byrd - are mesmerizing.
