Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Zohar B — 04 Sep 2008
1973, suburban Connecticut: middle class families experimenting with casual sex, drink, etc., find their lives out of control.*.
The Ice Storm Follows The Wayward Hood And Carver Families In 1973 Suburban Connecticut Who Try To Navigate A Thanksgiving Break Simmering With Unspoken Resentments, Sexual Experimentation, And Cultural Confusion. The Ice Storm Is A Classic Film From Director Ang Lee. A Beautiful And Extremely Well Made Film. Ang Lee Is One of The Most Gifted FilmMakers Around. The Performances Here Are All Phenomenal, Especially From Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Elijah Wood, Tobey Maguire, And Christina Ricci. Katie Holmes And Joan Allen Make A Nice Appearance Here As Well. The Ice Storm Is A Masterwork. Few Films Are As Compelling And Well Made As This One. A Superb Work of Pure Genius. Brilliantly Made And Superbly Crafted.*.
"I'm not good at math, just Geometry, like you know when they say two squared, you think two times two equals four, but really they really mean a square, Its really space its not numbers its space and its perfect space, But only in your head, because you can't draw a perfect square in a material world. In your mind, you can have a perfect square, you know?"*.
"To find yourself in the negative zone, as the Fantastic Four often do, means all every day assumptions are inverted. Even the invisible girl herself becomes visible and so she loses the last semblance of her power. It seems to me that everyone exists partially on a negative zone level, some people more than others. In your life, it's kind of like you dip in and out of it, a place where things don't quite work out the way they should. But for some people, the negative zone tempts them. And they end up going in, going in all the way."*.
"Because of molecules we are connected to the outside world from our bodies. Like when you smell things, because when you smell a smell it's not really a smell, it's a part of the object that has come off of it, molecules. So when you smell something bad, it's like in a way you're eating it. This is why you should not really smell things, in the same way that you don't eat everything in the world around you because as a smell, it gets inside of you. So the next time you go into the bathroom after someone else has been there, remember what kinds of molecules you are in fact eating."*.
Ang Lee Is A Cinematic Genius. The Ice Storm Is A Film That Will Stay With You Long After Its Over. Exceptional And Extraordinary In Every Way Imaginable. A Darkly Compelling, Mesmerizing, And Spellbinding Experience. No Words of Mine Can Describe How Amazing This Film Really Is. The Entire Cast Is Incredible, Especially Christina Ricci, Kevin Kline, And Sigourney Weaver. Ang Lee Has Become One of My Favorite FilmMakers. The Ice Storm Is A Classic. A Perfect Example of Truly Flawless FilmMaking. Brilliant And Amazing. A Phenomenal, Incredible Achievement. I Love It. A Flawless Film...
