Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Cong Han L — 13 Sep 2009
It's one of those films that are meticulously constructed to a fault, resulting in a surrealistic feel that prevents the viewer from fully connecting with the characters. A frequently gripping suburban drama that sometimes tries a little too hard to evoke the stifling atmosphere (the Nixon mask?!), but it has a good story to tell, and tells it well for the most part.
Thankfully, it avoids preaching it's morals outright (unlike Sam Mendes. ugh).
