The film is bleek and noirish; it is existential and cold. The humor must be found in these words and themes. If you don't find the concept of meaninglessness funny, you will not find this film funny.
Ramis does a good job with his material and the film is pretty good; but I never felt particularly engaged. Billy Bob Thorton's character, for example, is underdeveloped. His character was always fun on screen, but the story centers around the cold, anxious Cusack too much.
Perhaps a better viewing during the dull Christmastime.
