Review of The Hustler (1961) by Jordan S — 08 Jun 2008
Paul Newman is the gold standard when it comes to acting. There is no role or situation that he can't pull off. This movie has everything: ups/downs, pathos and even broken thumbs. Jackie Gleason is interesting as Minnesota Fats.
Not a lot of acting out of him other than his arrogance and slightly effeminant demeanor in the pool halls. Newman, George C. Scott and -- especially -- Piper Laurie pull off the real emotion of the film.
