Review of The Hurricane (1999) by Ivan K — 28 Nov 2010
I have absolutely no idea why it took me so long to see this movie seeing as 1) I love Denzel and 2) I've been intrigued by this story since I first heard Bob Dylan sing about it many years ago. This is a great, great movie.
What a hard and undeserved life that Rubin Carter has lived. It is such a highly captivating story of hardship, determination, kindness, and the human spirit. It just fascinates me to no end. And what more can be said about Denzel that hasn't already been said? He's just beyond phenomenal.
I absolutely plan on reading both books that had such an impact on the screenplay of this film. The fact that it was his own book that ultimately lead to his innocence and that he now spends his time fighting to help release other wrongfully convicted people to me just seems to make all of this reek of "things happen for a reason.
" This story to me transcends life itself. It's really pretty wonderful and I think lots of people could benefit by seeing it and learning about it.
