Review of The Hurricane (1999) by Justin T — 07 Mar 2012

I think the movie is extremely biased, but good at convincing you Carter is innocent and an angel. For one, things not even related to Carter annoyed me. When they showed families visiting their inmates, they were all happy "normal" looking people and the jail was just mean and wouldn't let the one lady visit her son.

Yeah right, I've been a visitor at jail and it ain't no frickin fairy tale of normal looking ppl. In fact, it's extremely uncomfortable the only visitors are pregnant young girlfriends who look scary or kids and the system has to set rules that are explained ahead of time or else they would walk all over the system.

Also, that match that was shown trying to make Philly look racist Carter even admitted he lost the fight. Anyways, I didn't like it though b/c it showed his story very one-sided and seemingly without much research done behind it.

It didn't even make sense. Why would that one cop be so out to run this guy's life? They didn't mention anything Carter did bad before like his string of robberies and going AWOL in the army or how Artis was caught drug dealing cocaine a couple years later and it just made the judicial system look like a joke.

Not that real prejudice doesn't exist, but they don't show the other side of the story. Actually they fabricated a lot of it as well, not only ignoring facts. However, that aside I thought the film was good.

Washington did a great job and it had a good plot and was very uplifting. Denzel did great job in the scene were he yells at his lawyers. I just can't give a higher rating to a movie done in bad taste.
