Review of The Hunting Party (2007) by Mark D — 01 Sep 2011
CULT MOVIE MONTH.
REVIEW #:006.
THE HUNTING PARTY [1971]: you don't want to mess with tycoon and gamesman Brand Ruger (Gene Hackman). When an Outlaw steals his wife, Ruger doesn't care about his wife just the fact someone stole her from him. Armed with a Hunting Party that all carry top of the line rifles the likes the Old West has never seen before, The Outlaw, Ruger's wife and his men are in grave danger when one by one The Hunting Party shoots them dead in a bloody rampage of revenge.
Overall Thoughts: This Typical & Violent Revenge-Cult-Western is fairly typical stuff in the wake of the Changing face of The Western genre after the popularity of The Italian Spaghetti Westerns in the mid 1960's. Gene Hackman is good in his role in this average film but it's only memorable for one scene. In that scene, the Outlaw& his trusted associate blackmail Ruger's starving wife into teaching the Outlaw to read with a jar of peaches. All I can say about that comically bizarre scene is this "Do you Like Peaches, Doc?" my rating for THE HUNTING PARTY is a simple 60% from me.
