Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Alex S — 16 May 2009
With the Cold War, defecting Soviet marine officers, submarines and a chase across the Atlantic, the ingredients were here to make a decent thriller. The again, by adding Sean Connery, a very young Alec Baldwin and script that took a whole hour to really get the story going The Hunt For Red October really doesn't achieve more than being a pretty basic submarine movie.
It was quite comical what with all the American roles played by American actors, and English, Scottish and Swedes playing russians with dodgy accents. I'm sure the comical effect wasn't intentional. Maybe it's just me. And the ending at the river was downright lame, with the cherry on top being the teddybear for Ryan's daughter.
