Review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) by Ryan B — 08 Apr 2012
The film debut of author Tom Clancy's CIA character Jack Ryan is a pretty solid submarine thriller. Probably one of the last good Cold War dramas. Alec Baldwin does a solid job as the CIA Analyst, even if the efforts by Harrison Ford in subsequent pictures were better (I like Baldwin, but Ford is just a more likable and better actor).
Sean Connery is really good as the Russian Submarine Captain looking to defect to America, even if his accent sounds oddly more Scottish than Russian. I liked this movie, it was a nice start to a smaller film franchise.
