Holiday movie with Iris.
Enjoyed the second instalment during a Valencia siesta. This is a darker film capturing the Orwellian world of Suzanne Collins' novels.
It benefits from a full-blooded performance from Jennifer Lawrence as the tough, single-minded warrior Katniss. I love her death stare to the President from her chariot.
It is certainly a more brutal film than the first, especially the imagery of district dwellers being rounded up and massacred.
If i'm honest the satirical game show is always the weakest part for me, and was done better in The Running Man and Rollerball.
Ultimately It is heartening to find a teen-franchise as gritty as The Hunger Games with a tough female lead.
