Review of The Hunger (1983) by Sherri S — 06 Oct 2007
This was an OMGZ fangirl movie for me because David Bowie stars in it, but I'll try to be as unbiased as possible. The film is more disturbing than actually scary. The idea of aging and decaying but still living forever is absolutely repulsive and is portrayed very well in the movie.
Bowie is of course gorgeous until he starts getting all crusty, and Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon are both striking. The makeup artist in this movie was incredible, not just with the folks who aged rapidly, but also with little things like Deneuve's makeup and Sarandon's eyeliner and hairdo (although it was a bit 80's).
I recommend this movie to people who like Vampire films (but aren't purists) and slightly corny 80's pictures. The film gets bonus points for an early appearance from Willem Dafoe and Bauhaus' performance of Bela Lugosi's Dead.
Awesomeness.
