Review of The Hunger (1983) by Matty S — 27 Dec 2013
Tony Scott's stylistic erotic horror film serves as both allegory and metaphor for the time in which it was made. As the world was becoming fully engulfed in the tragedy of AIDS comes this dark film.
At every turn you will find iconic moments. And, yes, I know that is an over and wrongly used word -- but it is true when it comes to The Hunger. The only reason I am not assigning a masterwork 5 star rating is due to the fact that Tony Scott ultimately decided not to worry how he chose to end the film.
He should have stuck to the novel from which the film is adapted. Being that the film was made in 1982 and released in 1983 it would be unfair to say that this is an MTV inspired film -- this film inspired MTV.
An amazing cult film in dire need of a restoration to blu-ray.
