Review of The Hunger (1983) by Kyle J — 11 Oct 2009
Completely over rated. Though it does manage a pretty effective atmosphere. It is sloooooooooooooooooooooooow on plot. My god. Like....three things actually happen in this movie and it takes a ridiculous amount of time for those things to happen.
It has an interesting take on the vampire mythos. There are no fangs. And the main vampire here, takes several "lovers" who live with her without aging for a century or so before rapidly ageing and wasting away. Though there is a price. They never die. They waste away to almost nothing but can still feel, hear and see. That part was terrifying.
Susan Surandon spends about 50% of her time on set engaging in lesbian sex. Which is pretty fantastic for obvious reasons. If you need to see a David Bowie movie, maybe check out Labrynth. If you need to see a movie that helped form the goth culture in the 80s check this out.
