Review of The Hunger (1983) by David A — 15 Jun 2010
(from The Watermark, 02/22/07 "SEXY GAY FLICKS").
Whitley Strieber's 1981 novel is taken to the next level with some hot Sapphic subtext. Catherine Deneuve is a vampire working to lure Susan Sarandon as her next victim. The consummation of their relationship is a steamy delight, since both actresses already ooze sexuality in all of their roles. (Many years later, in The Celluloid Closet, Sarandon revealed that the character was originally written to be drunk for their initial encounter and Sarandon insisted that no human would need to be inebriated to want to have sex with Catherine Deneuve. Atta girl!).
