Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Jeremy G — 10 Feb 2008
A curious mix of corporate satire, black comedy and slapstick romp, peopled by the sort of offbeat caricatures you'd be disappointed not to find in a Coen brothers film. Tim Robbins entertains as gormless everyman Norville Barnes, the titular proxy.
Paul Newman phones it in, but is still amusing. Jennifer Jason Leigh's grating Hepburn act is initially fairly funny, but gets old pretty fast. Includes some impressive and very memorable cinematography.
Overall a decent, if not particularly deep, comedy. Don't be put off by the ghastly title!
