Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Private U — 30 Nov 2008
The Coen Brothers once again produce a triumph of film, typically complex, typically unusual and typically brilliant.
Tim Robbins is very good as the bumbling proxy; "you know...for kids" is simply amazing everytime.
Jennifer Jason Leigh is really quite good as the fast talking journalist Amy Archer.
There is such a sense of nostaligia infused throughout this film, the brothers clearly have quite an affinity for the 1950s (despite satiring the big business corporations). THis film is clearly made with love.
The film is classic Coen, on an equal degree to The Big Lebowski, it's just different which is why people tend not to appreciate it as much, but I would argue that it is just as good.
