Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Chris E — 17 Feb 2010
A bizarrely whimsical film that feels exactly as it logically should: like a mish mash of the Coen brothers and Sam Raimi. It's the only Coen brothers comedy I've really found very funny and I'm going to put that down to Sam Raimi -it's not that I don't like the Coen brothers' comedies, it's just that the comedy is never enough to make me laugh out loud.
This film is full of odd little touches all over the place and things that should feel out of place but don't due to the film's style being so all-over-the-place.
The sets/cinematography are all very nice to look at and the cast is absolutely packed full of names, not huge names, but people I recognise such as the mighty Bruce Campbell and they all do a very good job. It's ultimately just a very strong little diversion of a film.
Personal enjoyment: 8/10.
Actual quality as a film: 8/10.
