Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Buddy K — 14 Mar 2011
One of the Coens' more accessible flicks. The performances are solid across the board especially from Jennifer Jason Leigh and Paul Newman. The script is strong and witty but is kept from greatness due to being a tad too long and having an out of nowhere ending with a double dish of Deus Ex Machina on the side.
In the end Hudsucker is most memorable for its terrific cinematography (Roger Deakins' first of many outings with the Coens) and its epic art direction.
