Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Shawn E — 20 May 2012
The Coen Brothers are known for taking tired genres and reinvigorating with their own unique worldview and style, but this is the first time that their originality seems to fail them. This movie is just a jumble of ideas and older film and styles without the Coens' creative spin on them.
The result is a movie that is ridiculously zany to the point of annoyance. It's heavy on style and all sorts of visual goodies but incredibly shallow when it comes to plot, characters, or anything remotely meaningful.
