Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Ian G — 21 Jun 2013
A surprising entry into the Coen Brothers catalogue, which, to my knowledge was one of their last partnerships on screen with Sam Raimi, seems to play up more of a Tim Burton tone particularly the art deco look of the first two Batman films and playing up the swinging 50's for big business and the underdog.
Has a slight magical yet screwball tone which works very well but seems out of place with the rest of the Coens catalogue to date and since. The highlight for me still has to be Newman as the manipulative Vice President pulling the strings behind the scene.
One of the lesser films fo r the Coens catalogue but a great one for anyone else.
