Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Jack C — 30 Sep 2008
This film is one of the oddest in the Coen's illustrious cannon but also one of my favourites. It's a simple story really about a young man coming to a big city with dreams of making it big. It's 1958, New York City is a magical place and the Coen brothers shoot the film in a fantastical way.
It's anarchic and awe-inspiring at the same time. The dialogue is some of their best and the cast is simply excellent (the late Paul Newman pulling out a great comedic turn). I can't really describe this film very well because like so many Coen brothers movies, its so many different things.
It's great so just watch it alright? Martinis are for squares!
