Review of The Housemaid (2010) by Jy S — 14 Oct 2010
Who said Americans have a monopoly on American Gothic? This Korean remake of a French remake of a Korean film is a meaty melodrama with a shiny veneer and a sinister underbelly . Darkly erotic in a way Hollywood films never are, this is a slow burning suspenser with lots of beautiful people in gorgeous clothes, eating stunning looking food while double crossing each other.
Its like I Am Love without the orchestra. Incredibly, the luxurious mansion where the drama take splace was actually a 2,300 square foot set. Great distaff characters play off each other wonderfully and the plot keeps you involved right up to the colourful climax.
