Review of The House of the Devil (2009) by Adam R — 04 Feb 2012
I so wanted to love this movie, and for the most part enjoyed watching it. It's so perfectly shot and the performances were so natural and believable. Ti West did a really classy job paying tribute to well made horror films (not the schlocky grindhouse which are great too!) from the late 70's early 80's like 'Black Christmas'. The music and the casting choices were spot on, especially casting great screen legends like Tom Noonan, Mary Woronov, even Dee Wallace in a brief cameo. But ultimately this movie was a let down for me, slightly creepy but never that scary, and very anti-climatic.
Overall a perfect execution of a dull and sloppy script.
