The House is another Will Ferrell comedy film that tries to poke fun at him for some cheap laughs and gags and even at Amy Poehler but this comedy film seems to be dried out for its humor. I have enjoyed Will Ferrell's movies long ago from Elf, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, and Step Brothers. But his latest work has been running out of fumes for humor.

The plot follows Scott (Ferrell) and wife Kate (Poehler) who promised their daughter they will have her college covered. She gets accepted into a university. The scholarships they had for their daughter has been revoked by city counselor (Nick Kroll) so he can use the money for a city pool instead. Scott and Kate plan with their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas) they will create their own underground casino in their neighbors house.

The plot is simple as that. With a subplot about the city counselor and his way of finding out that nobody is showing up to the towns meetings when there has been a suspicious activity with everyone heading to a secret spot, hence where the casino is. But the plot was not as fun as the trailer makes it out to be.

The humor and laughs were just cheap gags that are either making fun of Will Ferrells character for being terrible with numbers or being an idiot. Or Amy Poehler trying to be a bad attitude parent or being a drunk and peeing in front of their house and talking about how awesome they were in high school. And than there is Jason Mantzoukas, who is addicted to gambling and is on the urge of divorce and is trying to win his wife back. The film is lacking for laughs and most of it was seen in the trailers.

The cast was decent. They were seen in better films before. But The House really has nothing to offer. It's not fun. It doesn't have that many laughs. The plot is boring. And lets not forget a surprise cameo of another actor that makes an appearance later in the film. But that could not save the movie.

Overall, The House is a bad comedy film. I love Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. But the film was not funny. It was slightly boring. And forgettable.

I rate the film 2 out of 5 stars. I do not recommend the film at all unless your really bored and than I suggest it as a rental.
