A smart and engrossing, if bleak, drama that has four magnificent performances, from Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, and most notably, Julianne Moore and Ed Harris. This is a moving film about personal fulfilment and discontent that overcomes its experimental format with emotional resonance.
