Review of The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939) by James P — 18 Jul 2007
All kneel before the god that was Basil Rathbone. The guy was a legend and was the perfect actor for the role of Holmes. Nigel Bruce does a top notch bit of acting as Watson. In all of the 14 Holmes movies they made they were brilliant.
The movies stand the text of time very well and the black and white adds to the atmosphere of Victorian England. Its funny because Holmes is not actually in this movie all that much compared to some of the other.
Still essential viewing.
