Review of The Host (2015) by Karene A — 14 Sep 2013
This is humiliating, but having read the book I remember being pretty surprised that Stephenie Meyer wrote a story that was cohesive and pretty good in terms of dealin.
G with the psychological struggle of two beings in one body. Also, a fairly realistic post-apocalyptic society was described, believe it or not (especially for young adult fiction, bordering on adult). For once I'm not being sarcastic. The book was OK, superior obviously to the Twilight series. It was always going to translate into a rather awful film, since the teen-love angle was going to be played up. Imagine a teenager's body invaded by an alien who is also seemingly a love-swain teen. Twin teen love-angst trapped in one body, including constant voice-over conversation arguments going on between two teens trapped in my body ("Don't kiss him, he's mine!" / "No, he's MINE!"), makes for a hilarious and crappy film.
