Review of The Host (2013) by Nicki M — 01 Nov 2013
Honestly not a horrible movie (as so many bandwagoners would have you believe).
There's also a LOT of talk about Twilight. Well I can't speak towards that, as I've never seen those films, nor have I any interest in reading any of those books.
What I can speak to is that this movie is watchable.
I've been a fan of host/symbiote sci-fi media for a while (such as Stargate) and this one was interesting. It's an interesting take that doesn't rely on special effects to carry the plot. Yes, some parts are stretched out, but not so much that anyone with a NORMAL attention span wouldn't be able to 'endure'. And yes, there are loose ends, but then I'm also not one that needs everything explained and tied up nicely in a neat little package. (That's not how life is either, so it adds TRUE realism to the fiction.).
All in all, I can see this one being a "once watcher" (one that you watch once and leave it). So not a classic in the making by any sense of the word, but DEFINATELY not as bad as so many single-starers would have you believe.
Seriously... it's no Howard the Duck. O_o.
