Review of The Host (2013) by Mloy X — 26 Feb 2014
Wanderer/Wanda (Saoirse Ronan): You tried to kill me before, and now you're trying to protect me?
Ian O'Shea (Jake Abel): [beat] Strange world, huh?
Wanderer/Wanda (Saoirse Ronan): [smiles] The strangest.
I must admit, as much as I love Saoirse Ronan as an actress, this is not her best work, but then again, you are only as good as the material you are given and so I suppose, this wasn't entirely her fault. I like William Hurt (Uncle Jeb) in this too, I though he was a cool character and given the choice would have gone for Jake Abel (Ian O'Shea) instead because he was attracted to Wanda and saw beyond her physical form. I thought that was way more interesting a story. Overall, the story was alright but just a bit boring that even the action sequences were not exciting either; also a bit too predictable and the ending a bit convenient. This was alright as film but nothing to write home about.
