Review of The Host (2006) by Russell W — 18 Aug 2012
You know, I had heard great things about this one, so perhaps my expectations were too high. Frankly, I just didn't get into it. It comes across as more comedy than horror, with bumbling dysfunctional idiot family members melodramatically trying to rescue a little girl from a monster that has suddenly appeared and, for no apparent reason, has decided to start attacking people.
Does ANYTHING make sense in this film? Nope. Maybe that makes it more charming for some, but for me, it just added to the stupidity of the whole thing. I could barely stand any of the family members and the monster itself proved to be a massive disappointment (no story, no purpose, no substance).
You can see that the bones of a really cool, offbeat film are there, but for me it just didn't deliver. I was frankly bored for most of it. That sucks; I was really looking forward to this one.
