Review of The Host (2006) by Jake M — 19 Sep 2012
Joon-ho Bong's ambitious "monster movie" is much more than meets the eye. It transcends the typical elements of this sub-genre and delivers more than we could possibly have seen coming.
"The Host" is a hybrid of family drama, dark comedy and thriller wonderfully seasoned with political and social satire. The filmmaking at work here is exquisite! Bong's adept direction, Hyung-ku Kim's artful eye, with a coup of powerful performances all set to Byung-woo Lee's original score... the result is a masterpiece.
The film delivers gasps, laughs, and heart-wrenching scenes. Simply put, it is the most beautiful monster movie ever crafted. You might squirm and your jaw might drop, but you will be surprised by it's capability to inspire. See "The Host," It is surely worthy of your admiration.
