Review of The Host (2006) by Ozzdeath S — 19 Oct 2014
31 of 31 #23 THE HOST.
Time for some Korean creature horror time - not that hideous waste of time and film based on that waste of humanity Twilight writer what's her face no talent.
The movie starts with Hershel from the walking dead as a supervisor at a morgue and its upset that some bottles that hold all sorts of chemicals are dirty and they need to be discarded - right in the drain which would eventually lead to the ocean and that will in term create a big creature....sure enough...that's what happens here.
And we have our Discount Jack Black Korean actor ( not even going to try the name ) and he is a bum who works at his father's shop and we get the idea he is just a failure...that happens to have a daughter.
While delivering an order everyone around him notices a black shadow under the water....what is this ??? and then suddenly the creature comes out....it looks like the head of a bird, the mouth of the predator, the body of a snake, it has some squid like features and this thing can swing around like a monkey.....I gotta say that the CG is pretty good for this kind of movie.
We find out the creature is gathering people inside a sewer ( we assume to eat later ? ) and discount Jack Black's daughter gets captured by this creature.
There is some humor on this movie which comes out of nowhere and it kinda reminds you to not take this so damn seriously as it is obvious the filmmakers are not either....I mean...the premise is insane as it is.
The ending of this movie was pretty good, the body count is not as high as I expected but the deaths are not only significant...one of them totally caught me off guard and I like it because on an American creature movie this character usually survives....but not on this one.
Awesome little flick that is miles above the usual Sharknados or Sharktopus we are used to.
