With stunning visuals, an ominous but mysterious resplendent soundtrack, and an ever-evolving story that touches on many referential and societal themes (such as environmental concerns, governmental conspiracies, the morality of theft, widespread poverty), The Host is an effective reflection of individuals' perspectives on governmental responses to such disasters.
Not only is it an exhilarating thriller (that captures the unpredictable moves of the eponymous monster), but it also is a must-watch family drama that touches on the restoration of family bonds as well as greater societal implications.
Especially in connection to the South Korean government's response to the sinking of the Sewol Ferry in 2014, this movie is more than relevant in our modern age.
