Review of The Horse Whisperer (1998) by Bethany L — 27 Jul 2008
I love "girl and horse" movies and this might be the best of the bunch. I haven't seen it in years and I'd forgotten quite how beautifully the relationship between Pilgrim and Grace is portrayed, from first to last.
It's a long movie but that's mostly due to the silences that speak volumes. Redford's camera treats the relationships between people and people just the same as he does between people and animals.
I love his own character's frustration at Kristin Scott Thomas' character constantly trying to make conversation. It's genuinely just a story about two desperately wounded and broken characters getting back on their feet again; quite literally about getting back in the saddle again.
