Review of The Homesman (2014) by Alasdair B — 20 Sep 2014
"The Homesman'' is directed by Tommy Lee Jones, starring an all star cast of great talent. The two leads in the film are Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee himself. Both give fantastic performances. This film is visually stunning, featuring great shots of landscapes and just great cinematography all together. The script for the most part is solid.
The only real problem with this film is occasionally odd and out of place events. Certain things happen between our two leads and well frankly, its really odd.
We defiantly get what the trailer promised. A beautiful well acted western drama with dark comedy. This film has its comedic moments. It also has its hard to watch moments. There are times when things get really dark, creepy, and tragic.
The story is Mr. Briggs and Miss Cuddy are taking three mentally ill women to a place to be rehabilitated. Along the way they face many obstacles: hunger, cold, and upset passengers.
In the end this was a very good film. It had great characters and fine acting. Beautiful visuals, and a decent script. Some things felt out of place and the tone went a bit off at times, but the film stayed captivating and enjoyable. Despite how dark things got, Tommy Lee Jones was able to lift the mood.
