Review of The Homesman (2014) by Rachael H — 23 May 2015
Well acted, but utterly depressing, constant focus on hillary swanks characters looks, not much has changed really, still misogynistic world we live in, cursed if pretty or not, I think detachment is the only cure for this particular human condition.
A women who feels so much and radiates an innocent but tenacious beauty from within, but outside has to deal with plainess by worldly standards, when I meet such people I do stop and think wow your heart is a %100 open, definitely more rare a person of the two main characters which leads me onto Tommy Lee Jones character, it's so true and down to earth I loved his small existential change but ingrained selfishness and hardened heart much reflects the true nature of the capacity to keep up a true change in ones perspective, as isn't it easier to stay aloof and not get hurt? An honest awareness and capacity to look at oneself in a non judgmental way would lead to true change, but it was breathtaking and more real then sentimental films ive watched where (as much as I love them)there's a slight disparaging gap which miss's the true great flawed humanness of us all, we learn, we fail, we try, we quit we try again, we silently throw tantrums inside etc human condition.... he allowed his heart to open a little because he new a great women, she wasn't a supermodel or stunning beauty she was ordinary but extraordinary all rolled into one, for myself this film captures truth, sadness, hardness, bitterness, love, kindness, all the juxtapositions of the world and paradoxical truths I myself encounter daily when my eyes are wide shut.
