Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Sean B — 02 Jun 2008
Alejandro Jodorowsky's symbolic epic is one of cinema's most visual tour-de-forces. From beginning to end, the bizarre psychadelia is nothing short of astonishing, and will keep the viewer mesmerized even at the extremely grotesque moments.
A spiritual metaphor that touches on everything from religion, astrology, fate and reality, The Holy Mountain is a film that must truly be seen in order to believe. Like El Topo, The Holy Mountain at times suffers from bad pacing and lax storytelling, but with so much else going for it it's hard to complain.
