Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Jean G — 30 Aug 2008
This surpasses Fata Morgana as the weirdest film I saw. It is grotesquely beautiful and has a lot of meaningless symbolism and ritualism to it, but it's not as meaningless as both critics and fans make it out to be.
In fact, it has all the hallmarks of an anti-Christian, Buddhist fairytale, with some postmodern cliches (like getting behind the camera). It certainly deserves several viewings, not merely to understand it, but also purely for the sake of its beauty.
I'll be paying more attention to Jodorowsky.
