Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Y'ng Y — 19 Aug 2009
After reading Rene Daumal 'Mount Analogue', I realised that Jodorowsky's film is only very loosely based on the book. This is a product of an over-reaching imagination, really bizarre set pieces and far-out touches throughout, it makes me wonder if I have entered the hallucinations of a drug-addled brain, and there are moments when I am not sure if it is a film anymore.
Never a dull moment, five stars for appearances, however, the camp spirituality is never to be as seriously felt as in a bergman or tarkovsky film..
