Review of The Holy Mountain (1973) by Sam C — 03 Mar 2009
I have no idea where to begin with this movie. I have seen it multiple times and loved it each and every viewing. The movie is visually astounding, with the colors literally oozing of the screen. There is so much symbolism going on that I would be lying if I said that I completely understood this movie.
Every time I watch it I pick up on something I didn't notice before. The market scene at the beginning with the gas masked troops and the people marching in the streets holding up dead carcasses which then leads into all the crucifixions molded from his body speaks volumes.
The movie then branches off and tells the tales of the most powerful people in the world. Each has their own specific job and accompanied pleasures, yet they still crave more. Together with the Alchemist they travel the land to find the mystifying Holy Mountain.
A journey the viewer will never, ever forget.
