Review of The Hollars (2016) by Kevin A — 04 Sep 2016
A pure and simple pleasure, the Hollars is a fine, fun, diverting 88 minutes of a quirky family comedy/drama that features a fine cast and a silly, yet enjoyable story as the family rallies around a mother with a surprise medical crisis.
The motley cast is enjoyable with John Krasinski as the wayward brother, his prego g'friend Anna Kendrick and most enjoyable the parents Don and Sally by Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale-both terrific.
As the oldest brother Ron, played by the South African actor Sharlto Copley (well remembered from District 9 and Chappie) he is a hoot as a emotionally disjointed divorced father of two young girls yet consigned to live in the basement of his parents' house.
There are laugh out loud fun set pieces. This is a "small" film, but a joy to watch.
