Review of The Hoax (2006) by Sean K — 06 Jan 2008
Absolutely fascinating! You've got an unbelievable true story, fine performances all around, and whipsmart direction. The film questions its own authority as a narrator, plunging through layers of subjectivity to honor the enigmatic nature of the events and people it portrays.
What starts out as a pretty straightforward drama morphs into a lovely puzzle movie that pays brilliant homage to another filmmaker who also chronicled Clifford Irving - the late great Orson Welles. (see "F is for Fake").
