Review of The Hoax (2006) by Mladen K — 30 Jan 2008
While I wouldn't call myself a fan of director Lasse Halstrom ( What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, The Shipping News), he generally makes soild films and he always gets good performances out of his actors.
The Hoax is no different in that regard with Richard Gere acting better than he has in years, and Alfred Molina is always a pleasure to watch, both get to be a bit more understated than usual here. The plot is interesting and the writing is decent, my only real complaint is that three fine actresses; Hope Davis, Julie Delpy and Marcia Gay Harden are all underutilized.
