Douglas Adams always wanted his hugely popular book to be made into a movie, and it only took 23 years for it to finally be green-lighted. And when all is said and done, I think he would be very pleased with the end result.

That said, you really need to be a fan of the book, radio play, or original TV series to really be prepared for the trippy, madcap journey this is going to take you on. Intensely quirky and weird, and quintessentially English, the performances are all solid enough, Martin Freeman is a wonderful Arthur Dent, Mos Def is a great choice as Ford Prefect, and I really loved Sam Rockwell as Zaphod. Just be prepared, that's all I'll say. If you're not, there's a very good chance you just won't 'get' this at all.
